(Gajan – Echoes of Faith)
Gajan is dedicated mainly to Lord Shiva, while in some regions it also honors Dharmathakur and Neel. Celebrated at the end of the Bengali year in West Bengal during Chaitra, it culminates on Chaitra Sankranti—the final threshold between ending and renewal.
This photo series traces the journey of devotees, or bhaktas, as they prepare, perform, and push beyond physical limits in acts of faith. It moves from quiet, intimate moments—fasting, body painting, and ritual gatherings—to the charged climax of Charak Puja, where bodies are suspended and tested in public expressions of surrender.
Photo Story: Beyond the Scroll
At its core, the series explores the relationship between body and belief, raising questions of endurance, sacrifice, and spiritual expression. Gajan emerges not merely as ritual, but as a living tradition—where pain, devotion, and celebration converge at the edge of a new beginning.
“Gajan – Echoes of Faith” ultimately invites the viewer to witness, reflect, and engage with a cultural practice that is as visually striking as it is spiritually profound.
