At first light, Barti Bill seems to exist between two worlds. The surface of the water holds the pale morning sky, mist lingers over the distant fields, and the quiet is broken only by the calls of birds and the occasional movement of a boat. As the day unfolds, however, the wetland slowly reveals itself—not as an empty landscape, but as a place alive with movement, livelihood and memory.
Located in the rural landscape of Bengal, Barti Bill is part of a delicate wetland ecosystem that sustains a remarkable variety of life. Its waters and surrounding marshes provide habitat for birds and aquatic species, while generations of local communities have depended on these wetlands for fishing and other everyday livelihoods.
