Photostory: The City of My Heart

The City Full of Life, the People Close to the Heart is a quiet meditation on Kolkata as a living, breathing presence. In black and white, the city sheds its familiar colours and reveals something more enduring: its soul. These photographs do not seek spectacle; instead, they linger on gestures, glances, pauses, and fleeting moments where life reveals itself without performance. Kolkata emerges here not merely as a place, but as an emotion—layered, contradictory, tender, and resilient.
The people become the city’s true architecture. Faces shaped by time, labour, joy, and longing carry stories that the streets alone cannot tell. In their eyes live memories of shared laughter, quiet suffering, stubborn hope, and everyday grace. There is intimacy in the ordinary: a moment of rest, a glance exchanged, a life unfolding unnoticed. The monochrome frames strip away distraction, allowing light and shadow to speak the language of memory and emotion.
Ultimately, this is about belonging. It reflects a city that lives through its people, and people who carry the city within them. Together, they form a rhythm—sometimes chaotic, sometimes gentle—that continues to beat, reminding us that a city’s true identity is found not in its landmarks, but in its human pulse.
