The past was deep.
The fairy lights were black and white.
As if everything was lost in a film scene from the prime time.
Gravel crunches, A pebble thrown to the side. A leaf in parabolic flight, Swirling with the gusts of nature’s breath.
A synagogue is the centre of the Jewish religious community: a place of prayer, study, education, social and charitable work as well as a social centre. The word “synagogue” is actually a Greek translation of Beit K’nesset
meaning “place of assembly” (related to the word synod). Religions, throughout social history, have always been one of the most prominent social institutions that plays an important role in regulating a person’s life.
So, I thought to myself, “why not give this a chance?”. I started turning up at the college band auditions, going down to the canteen, and even made some friends. I got to know the people in my department. Slowly, I realized, that this wasn’t that bad.
Inside the Temple, everyone was welcomed regardless of their caste or background, which shows the sign of unity and equality. As we entered the temple a melodious song started playing, these were holy hymns.
West Bengal clearly outdoes itself during their feast of Durga Puja. There are many exquisite pandals for the communal congregation, housing the regal goddess. During the five days of Durga Puja many rejoice and invite their family and friends to their homes for some jolly feasting!
Being born and brought up in Delhi NCR, Dussehra to me always meant the last day of Ramlila which ends with great fanfare and festivity with a massive Ravan Dahan (burning of an effigy of Ravana). But my Kolkata born and brought up parents always told me about the Durga Puja celebrations of Kolkata.
Once the pandals open, throngs of people flock to see them. The grandeur and creativity never fails to leave us in awe. However, it is quite a task to navigate through the sometimes chaotic pandals without getting lost.
