Christmas comes a day early here. Santa Claus descends in the narrow lanes of Bow Barracks in the evening of 24th December sitting on a hand pulled rickshaw.
Bow Barracks is a small hub of Kolkata, where mainly Anglo-Indian people have lived for generations.
At other times of the year, this locality remains a quiet part of the city, inhabited mostly by elderly people.

However, during Christmas, young people and relatives return home to celebrate the festivities, and the entire area transforms into a small wonderland.
It almost seems as if the spirit of Santa Claus and the conviviality of Christmas revives the youth in the elderly residents. Everywhere you look, people wear Christmas hats, donning new clothes, carrying bright, colourful balloons, and filling the air with a joyful, infectious, youthful energy.
