Moving towards modernity

The Bahariya Oasis of Egypt is in the Sahara Desert. It is located about 365 kilometers southwest of Giza Governorate from Cairo.  The capital of the oasis is called Bawiti. Despite being in the heart of the desert, it is rich in water wealth. The fertile oasis is filled with various trees like dates, palms, olives etc.

Nearby the salt lakes are another point of interest. This lake was formed as a result of excess agricultural irrigation because it is a low-lying area, so most of the excess water in the land goes to this area. Also, the water, as it heads to the low-lying area, takes with it the salts in the soil, so the salt lake was formed.

Bedouins, who were nomads in the past, have settled in this region. Their old houses and traditional lifestyle can still be seen in the village, that is moving towards modernity.
