Charminar is one of the most popular landmark and symbol of Hyderabad and is official emblem of the Telangana. This monument was built by the 5th ruler of Qutb Shahi dynasty, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, in 1591 after shifting his capital from Golconda to the newly formed city of Hyderabad.
While having both historical and religious significance, it is also well-known for the bustling local markets that surround the building and has grown to be one of Hyderabad’s most popular tourist destinations. Due to its proximity to the Makkah Masjid, the city’s principal mosque, the Charminar is also a location for several holiday celebrations, including Eid-ul-Adha and Eid al-Fitr
The Charminar is situated on the east bank of Musi River. The Laad Bazaar is to the west, and to the southwest lies the richly ornamented granite Makkah Masjid. It is listed as an archaeological and architectural treasure on the official list of monuments prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India. The English name is a translation and combination of the Urdu words chār and minar translating to “Four Pillars”; the eponymous towers are ornate minarets attached and supported by four grand arches.
Chirantan Dutta is a Kolkata-based hobbyist photographer who has been practicing photography since 2013. His work explores street, documentary, travel, and weather photography, focusing on candid human moments and the atmosphere of everyday life. He prefers a minimal post-processing approach, allowing the authenticity of the moment to remain central to his images.
Professionally, Chirantan works as a Management Consulting Analyst at Accenture. Alongside his corporate career, photography remains a deeply personal and reflective pursuit.
He was a winner of the Canon Click-o-torian contest in 2016, and his work has been exhibited at the Kolkata International Photography Festival in 2019, along with a few group exhibitions and photography showcases in recent years.
