There is more to Rakul Preet Singh than just her glamorous avatar! Few people know that she takes up the cause of animal welfare quite seriously and has been working for it for quite some time. Recently, the actor has become the brand ambassador for Drools, a pet food brand to help the cause of animal nutrition across the country. TheSpace.Ink got in touch with her to talk about her love for animals, her frequent visits to animal shelters and her work with stray animals on the streets of Mumbai. u00a0

As a devoted pet mom, I understand the importance of providing our furry family members with the right nutrition

Space.ink: Tell us about your association with Drools.

Rakul: I am incredibly happy to be associated with Drools again. As a devoted pet mom, I understand the importance of providing our furry family members with the right nutrition. The commitment to high-quality pet food resonates deeply with me, and Iu2019m excited to work with them to empower pet parents and educate pet owners across the country. Drools provides the best quality nutrition and products for pets. I understand the importance of a healthy and nutritious diet for a petu2019s growth, which is why I choose the brand because I know their in-house team of vets and nutritionists formulate the products. These products then undergo stringent quality checks to ensure superior quality food that meets the growing needs of pets.

Space.ink: Are you a pet lover? Do you have pets?

Rakul: I am a dog lover and grew up with pets. I have owned several dogs, and each one has brought me immense joy. I love how they express their emotions, how they lick my hand, and brush up against my leg. Having them in our lives brings so many positive changes, and it is difficult even to imagine a day without them.

Space.ink: What do you think of the way stray animals are treated in Mumbai?

Rakul: I cannot imagine our world without animals. Let us pledge to be more considerate and responsible towards them. Animals without a designated caretaker or a home often struggle to survive on their own. Their lives are filled with hardships as they lack shelter and regular sustenance. I urge all animal lovers to adopt pets and see how they fill your life with joy. Pets are friendly and, if kept well, will not attack unless provoked. Choosing to adopt a stray or rescued animal is an act of kindness that benefits both the adopter and the pet. By providing a benevolent home, we give these animals a chance to live a better life. Moreover, adopting rather than shopping for pets aligns with our desire for companionship and love.

Let us pledge to be more considerate and responsible towards animals

Space.ink: Have you visited animal shelters in the past? Do share your experience.

Rakul: Yes, I have visited several NGOs. Today, there are so many pet adoption and awareness programs. NGOs have played a major role in improving the lives of stray animals. Through such programmes, people have been made aware of sterilization, vaccination, adoption, health, and education. In my experience, becoming a pet parent is a beautiful road to self-discovery. I never knew I could give so much unconditional love to another being. I have been contemplating much about the idea of adoption rather than shopping. One can even become a foster parent and contribute to a petu2019s journey until they find their loving family. Having a pet is all about love and patience, along with systematic behavioural training to nurture a dog. Let us all do our part to provide these animals with the love and care they deserve.

Currently, animal welfare laws are not strong enough to protect animals from abuse and neglect

Space.ink: If you were to be made the animal welfare minister of the country for a day, what would you do differently?

Rakul: Currently, animal welfare laws are not strong enough to protect animals from abuse and neglect. As a result, there is no significant penalty for irresponsible ownership or abandonment of dogs, leading to an increased number of stray dogs. As a minister, I would develop more awareness about animal birth control programs and vaccination drives. I would provide information about healthy pet nutrition, socialization, and training, ensuring a better life for all animals.
