Upon learning of her mother’s terminal cancer diagnosis, Amelia devastated, took to Facebook to share cherished memories of their time together, expressing the profound void her mother’s impending departure would leave in her life. Her friends on Facebook offered their heartfelt sympathies.
After she arrived in Delhi from Boston, conveniently prioritising her mother’s compromised immunity, Amelia confined herself to a comfortable hotel room on account of ‘mild’ cold and fever, which she argued could jeopardise her mother’s health. Right through her stay in Delhi, alongside sightseeing and visits to her friends in the city, she kept in touch with her mother through WhatsApp video calls.
As Amelia recovered and the day of her departure neared, her mother expressed a final wish – a face-to-face meeting in the hospital, a chance to spend a precious day together.
“Mom, I love you deeply, and I truly want to be there for you,” Amelia replied, her voice laced with reluctance. “But unpacking and repacking everything at this stage would be incredibly difficult. Couldn’t we just connect on WhatsApp?”
