I am a bookworm and my favourite book is ‘The Boys   Who   Fought’    by Devdutt Pattanaik. This book beautifully describes the great epic Mahabharata  originally written by sage Veda Vyasa.

Devdutt Pattanaik uses doodles to illustrate the story, making it compelling and easy to understand. He is an Indian author and is known for his writings on Hindu mythology.

The book is about five brothers called the Pandavas who fought against their hundred cousins known as the Kauravas. The Pandavas were fighting for survival while the Kauravas were fighting because they did not want to share their kingdom with the Pandavas. The Pandavas had to go for thirteen years of exile because they had lost in a gambling match against the Kauravas. In the end, the Kaurava army was badly defeated by the Pandavas.

Reading this book I was introduced to the great epic Mahabharata. Learning about ancient text was exciting and I gained a lot of knowledge. The epic teaches us that we should maintain peace and not fight, otherwise life will teach us a lesson that we don’t want to suffer. Krishna is my favourite character in the story. It is because of Krishna‘s guidance and strategies that the Pandavas survived and won the great battle. has collaborated with ‘Word Munchers’, a creative writing platform that trains and encourages kids and youngsters to hone their creative writing skills. will be publishing two short essays by students of ‘Word Munchers’ every Saturday.
