In this video, Ghosh and Redwine discuss their new upcoming book, soon published by Brill Publications from Netherlands, titled, Tagore and Yeats: A Postcolonial Re-envisioning, in which they discuss the two Nobel winning writers’ friendship, their fallout, the politics of friendship, colonialism, art and representation.
About the speaker :
Dr. Elizabeth Redwine is a lecturer of English at Seton Hall University, the US and co-editor of the journal Critical Inquiries into Irish Studies. She also coordinates the first year writing at Seton Hall University. Her recent book on Gender and Performance at the Abbey Theatre has been published by OUP, 2021.
Dr. Amrita Ghosh is a Research Fellow at South Asia Center, SASNET, Lund University in Sweden and also teaches as an Associate Faculty in Brooklyn Institute for Social Research in New York. She writes and teaches on Postcolonial literature, decoloniality, borderlands and the conflict zone of Kashmir.
Addendum: Since the podcast was done many months ago, the scholars in conversation here would like to acknowledge Ragini Mohite’s new book, Modern Writers, Transnational Literatures. Rabindranath Tagore and W.B. Yeats, Clemson University Press that came out during the pandemic, and is perhaps the first book doing comparative work on the Nobel Laureates Tagore and Yeats, on a completely different focus on transnational literatures.
