English is appropriated by those who choose the language for freedom. That is the ironic by-product of American imperialism. And that is also the reason why those people whose mother tongue is English sometimes find themselves in problematic circumstances, like being asked what their mother tongue is, although they speak English.
If I summarize the ideology of English conversation described by him, I would say that that is the linguistic version of American imperialism. Today, most English conversation lessons– not writing but speaking skills– are targeted at businesspeople. So, textbooks should be naturally designed according to their requirements.
Since February 21, 2000, the International Mother Language Day has been observed as an annual event to honor and celebrate linguistic diversity around the world, and also to discuss and plan measures that can help preserve linguistic diversity in the face of pressure from more dominant languages.
