Even after 75 years, India does not have a national language, food or dress. Instead, it has 24 major languages, 1600 dialects, 6 active religions and some 6400 so-called caste-groups.
India declared Independence on 15th August 1947 at the stroke of midnight. The first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru delivered a speech at the Parliament that is famously known the the ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech.
Nehru realized and articulated that the infrastructure and industrial projects of India were to become the temples of this nation. India was therefore, a land of opportunity. On the country’s 75th Independence Day let us take a look at some of the modern architects of India who laid the foundation of a nascent nation.
