Reena’s heart pounded with excitement as she tightly gripped the 500 rupees note she had chanced upon. Racing through the busy streets of Chowringhee toward her modest home nearby, she struggled to contain her excitement. “Tonight, finally, a decent meal for the whole family!” she whispered to herself.

But her joy was short-lived.

Upon entering the dimly lit corridor of her dreary building, her landlady materialized in the shadows with her usual greedy demeanour. Reena’s spirits plummeted as the woman demanded her portion of the newfound wealth. Desperation hung heavy in the air as Reena pleaded, but the landlady’s words were callous – “Fortune favours only the fortunate, my dear!”

With a swift, practised motion, she seized the note. Darkness enveloped the hallway once more. Reena stood there alone, the echo of her stolen dreams reverberating around her.
