Significance is something we tie so much to
The belief that we are
Something
Out of nothing
A sliver of gold
Within miles of ash
The proverbial needle
Within the haystack of darkness
Brightness
Within a universe of black
Infinity
The lights flicker from down below
Inches of yellow followed by miles of black
Seconds tick by
Or are they hours
It doesn’t seem to matter
Significance is something we tie so much to
Meaning
From the droll existence
That comes from being meaningless
We derive it
From things that aren’t
Shouldn’t
We derive it
Even if it doesn’t need derivation
Significance is something we tie so much to
From up here
We look like ants
Crawling
Going about our lives
Like a model city from a children’s toy
Under whims that aren’t there
That may be there
That exist
But don’t
Significance is something we tie so much to
The concept of existence
Is something that’s argued
Sentience
Inconceivable by those who are
It seems an irony beyond belief
A concept of the conception-less
Like putting out an inferno with a cup of water
There seems to be so much power
In being able to say
That a person has found meaning
That people are driving towards something
An end goal
As hours and years tick by
Unobstructed
Unstoppable
Significance is something we tie so much to
Be it nirvana or enlightenment
Be it understanding or peace
Be it
It’s all the same
Pieces of shattered mirrors
Within an ebony infinity
All that differs
Is the intention
The mood
Connotation
Denotation
Significance is something we tie so much to
But from up here
All I see are flickering lights
And ants crawling by
