Modhera village is situated in Mehsana district of Gujarat. Its finest temple is older than the world-famous Konark temple of Odisha, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Situated 100 km away from Ahmedabad, the Surya Temple, or the temple of the Hindu Sun-God, is situated in a complex that houses an archeological museum. The museum consists of statues and inscriptions.

The temple was built in 1026 by King Bhimdev-I of the Chalukya dynasty. Shortly after it was built, the temple repeatedly came under attack, first from Mahmud, Sultan of Ghazni and later, by Allauddin Khilji of Delhi.

The main temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum and a mandapa called Gudamandapa.

A Sabha mandapa is situated nearby, which has a Surya Kund (a rectangular-shaped water tank). A pair of pillars adorn it.

It is one of the best exquisitely sculpted temple in India.

First published work in print on September 1975. Currently, he is the author of twenty books which are specially based on travel, rail, forest etc. He also wrote travel poetry.
