Harekrishna Deka (born 1943) is one of Assam’s most recognized contemporary writers. He is adept at multiple genres of literature and has influenced generations of readers and creative practitioners building a bridge between the Assamese greats of the twentieth century and the innovatively inclined writers of the present. He received the Sahitya Akademi award in 1987 for his poetry collection Aan Ejon, the Katha award for short story in 1996, Assam Valley Literary Award in 2010. Deka served as a senior officer in the Assam Police till his retirement.
