Last year I went to Singapore with my mother, father and my younger brother. When we landed at Changi airport, I was astonished that if the airport is so pretty and enjoyable, what would the whole city be like!

We stayed at Sentosa for three days at Le Meridien. We visited The Universal Studios and the Aquarium.  It was so much fun. On the fourth day we shifted to Singapore city and stayed at the Swissotel. Our room was on the Seventy-Second floor overlooking the Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore flyer. I loved the city especially because of its cleanliness. The people in Singapore were very helpful and friendly as well. On our return journey to India, we spent three hours at the airport. Our terminal had many shops for snacks, sweets, clothes, makeup, shoes, bags and many more. I also met one of my school friends at the airport. When my mother and I were shopping for chocolates and candies, suddenly my mother turned around to leave and she found that I was lost. I saw another candy and chip shop so that’s why I got curious and went there. My outfit got camouflaged with the walls so my mother couldn’t spot me. Suddenly I also remembered that I was not with my mother and got scared. At that moment I went to the nearest information counter and reported this incident. My mother came running there as she heard the airport staff’s announcement and hugged me. My father had told me on our arrival about this help desk at the airport and thankfully I remembered it in time.

I got a scolding from my mother for being irresponsible and learnt that we should never leave our parents’ side in an unfamiliar place. I thought that if India would be as clean as Singapore, it would be so nice. Overall, I really enjoyed my vacation and this will be a very important memory for me. has collaborated with ‘Word Munchers’, a creative writing platform that trains and encourages kids and youngsters to hone their creative writing skills. will be publishing two short essays by students of ‘Word Munchers’ every Saturday.
